Bumpdate: 32 Weeks

How I'm Feeling

I'm still feeling well, and I've been doing pretty much everything I normally do.  Though, I've reached the point where I am also feeling ginormous, and my belly is constantly in the way.

Weight Gain/Measurements

I've gained 20 lbs since the start of my pregnancy.  My waist has grown 10 inches, and my rib cage has grown 4 inches.  I didn't realize that my rib cage would or even could grow during pregnancy, and it took me a couple weeks to determine why my new bras felt like they were suffocating me.  Note: EVERY part of you will grow during pregnancy.

Sleep

Sleeping through the night has become more challenging during the third trimester.  It's more difficult to find a comfortable position for my hips and back, and I find myself getting up once a night to use the restroom.  Also, I learned through experience that I absolutely must eat mild foods for dinner or I'll be plagued with horrible heartburn when I lay down.

Food Cravings

I fear I'm never going to get a real strong pregnancy craving like everybody talks about.  Once again, I'm having more food aversions than food cravings.  In the first trimester the aversions were caused by morning sickness, and now they are a result of heartburn.  I'm currently avoiding onions, peppers, and anything spicy.  It pains me to be avoiding spicy food, but it's just not worth it at this point.

Other Symptoms

My belly has transformed into an entirely different belly over the past month.  My belly button has officially become an outie and is clearly visible underneath all of my clothing.  Because of this, a couple people told me that my timer was up (referencing a turkey timer that pops out when the turkey's done...haha).  Also, the linea nigra has appeared on my belly, which is a dark vertical line that runs down the center of the abdomen.  Most pregnant woman have the linea nigra by the end of their pregnancy, and it disappears a couple months after delivery.  I think the line looks comical because it appears as though the baby is trying to break out.  Needless to say, my stomach is completely alien to me at this point.

Our little guy is still very active.  He flipped around 28 weeks, so he is head-down now.  This means that both of his feet are right next to my rib cage, which hasn't been pleasant.  He has been kicking my ribs, and occasionally he wedges his feet under my rib cage and then kicks.  There's nothing like seeing your ribs pop out an inch after a tiny karate kick.  Luckily, my husband and I have discovered a method to make him move his feet out from under my ribs.  My husband blows raspberries on top of his feet, and the vibration makes him move them immediately.

Best Moment of the Month

My best and worst moments of the months were linked this month.  I'm going to start off telling you the worst moment, but I promise it'll end on a happy note.  At a doctor's appointment a few weeks ago, I was told that my belly had hardly grown over the period of a month when they measured my Fundal height with a tape measure.  The doctor said that was either because my baby wasn't growing or I didn't have enough amniotic fluid.  They scheduled an ultrasound to take a closer look.  I was shocked because I felt like I had been growing.  Regardless, I freaked out for a week until the ultrasound.

At the ultrasound, we learned that our little guy was actually slightly large for his age, and I had a normal amount of fluid.  They simply measured me incorrectly.  You can not imagine the relief I felt.  Everything was okay!  Not to mention, we got to see him again in 3-D, which always makes my heart melt.  This time he had cute chubby cheeks!  At my next doctor's appointment, they measured me again with the tape measure, and I was suddenly exactly the right size.  It was all a false alarm.

If I learned one thing from this experience, it's to chill out.  It's super easy to freak out over the smallest things when you are pregnant because you are totally responsible for another human being and you want to do everything you can to make them happy and healthy.  However, odds are, everything is going to be just fine.

Looking Forward To...

I'm looking forward to my second baby shower that I'm going to attend in just a couple hours!  How lucky am I to be getting two showers?  I'm blessed with truly amazing friends both in my hometown and where I currently live.
