Originally, I was surprised how excited Little Harp was about the baby food, and then I tried some. It tastes like apple pie filling. APPLE PIE FILLING. I'm still a little confused about how that is possible without adding any sugar, but it apparently is. After discovering that it is super tasty, I might have proceeded to steal a sizable amount of the delicious concoction to top off my pancakes. I may still steal some every time he makes it. Don't tell.
If you're looking for a healthy food that your baby will love eating, keep reading for the recipe. Don't worry if you aren't a fantastic cook. It's a surprisingly simple and quick recipe. I'm usually still stumbling around bleary-eyed trying to make my coffee when he finishes cooking.
You will need:
(Makes about 4 - 4oz jars of baby food, depending on fruit size)
- 2 Apples (We like gala or pink lady apples, but any will do.)
- 1 Pear
- 1 Tbsp cinnamon
- 3 Tbsp water
1. Core and remove peal from apples and pear. Dice into 1/4 inch cubes.
2. Combine apples, pear, cinnamon and water in a small saucepan on medium heat.
3. Boil for about 10 minutes or until tender, stirring every couple of minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
At this point, the food is a stage 3 baby food (it has soft, small chucks). This is how we like to eat it. If your baby is still on purees, simply throw it in a blender and blend away. You'll be left with some super yummy applesauce!
There it is! Photographic proof that Little Harp is in love with this stuff. I'm willing to bet that your baby will be too!
